Distribution
Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria
Identification
15–20 mm in length. Rotund, fatter than a honey bee, and covered with golden brown hairs including the legs except for the dark hairless bands on the abdomen.
Behaviour
Females make shallow nest burrows in soft soil and sometimes under houses. It is solitary but stays in close proximity to other teddy bear bees.
Importance
Buzz pollinators in flowering plants that require buzz pollination.
Danger
Can be aggressive when defending its nest. It has a sting pain level of 2.5 out of 4.
