Pseudoscorpions
Pseudoscorpions, also called false scorpions or bark scorpions are small arachnids from the order Pseudoscorpiones. They superficially resemble scorpions as their pedipalps are also modified into pincers, but they do not have a long tail with a stinger. They are about 2–8 mm in length and are usually found under bark outdoors, but can also be found in many habitats. However, because of their size, they are rarely noticed. They are generally beneficial to humans as they are predators of clothes moth larvae, booklice, carpet beetles, mites, ants, small flies, and other small insects and arachnids.
Pseudoscorpions are widely distributed in Australia, with more than 170 species described.
