Identification

Adult:  6.0-7.0 mm, almond-shaped, long legs and antennae. The elytra do not fully cover the abdomen. The inner ridge of the lower side of the hind femur has one spine. The sides og the thorax have spines.

Larva: Scarabeiform, legs are partly developed.

Life Cycle

Dependent on the cropping cycle and availability of ripening seeds. The eggs are glued externally to the pod. Once larvae hatch, they bore into seed and complete the development inside. The adults leave a neat exit hole when they emerge, fly, do not feed on commodities, and are long-lived. 

Commodities attacked

Ripening peas. Does not reinfest dried seed in storage after the adults emerge.

High in crops that the insect attacks.
