Microcerotermes turneri
This is a highly destructive subterranean termite native to Australia.
Distribution
East coast of Australia from Townsville in northern Queensland to mid-coast the of New South Wales
Identification
Alates. Alates measure 9.00–10.25mm with wings, and 4.75–5.80mm without wings.
- Head very dark brown
- Pronotum very dark brown;
- Postclypeus much lighter.
- Anteclypeus is hyaline (glassy and translucent)
- Anterior half of the meso- and metanotum are light brown;
- Abdomen, as well as antennae and are darker.
- Pronotum with a pale coloured “+” in the median line
- Antennae has 14 segments;
- 3rd segment of antenna noticeably smaller and shorter, 4th and the following segments progressively increase in length.

- Wings are dark and smoky
Soldier caste. Soldiers are 4.75–5.75mm in length.
- Head orange to reddish-brown
- Labrum is parallel on the sides, and is orange to reddish-brown in colour;
- Labrum is bluntly pointed at the apex
- the first segment of the antennae is orange to reddish-brown; the rest of the segments are brownish-yellow
- Colour of the head is darkest anteriorly
- Head is variable in size, slightly widened on the sides, with few hairs
- Mandibles black, moderately serrated, strongly curved, and shorter than head;
- Mandibles noticeably concave externally at the base
- Antennae has 13 segments;
- 3rd segment of antenna noticeably smaller than other segments
- 4th and 5th segment of antenna approximately equal in size; 6th – 13th segments slightly increase in length progressively
