Identification
Adults
5.0–6.0 mm, oval-shaped, flattened body. Reddish-brown to black in colour. The head is the widest at the eyes. The outside edge of the elytra is flattened like a ‘flange’ that gradually narrows towards the tip.
Larvae
elateriform.
Life Cycle
At optimum conditions of 30 ℃ the life cycle will be completed in 30-40 days. The eggs are laid in commodities. The larvae are mobile and feed externally. The adults live long, feed on the commodity, and fly.
Commodities attacked
Cereal and grains, especially maize. Inhabitant of chicken houses.
