Identification
Alate: Length with wings 10.25–11.91 mm; length without wings 4.99–7.08 mm.
- Head colour is variable; may be uniform orange or with a deep orange band across the middle
- Head is slightly wider than its length; sutures are visible
- Pronotum is more yellow than head, or orange yellow
- Wings are translucent like glass; base and anterior veins are orange.
- Pronotum width equal to or a bit less than head width
- Posterior margin of mesonotum straight to slightly concave
- Posterior margin of metanotum slightly concave

Soldier: 5.50–8.21 in length
- Head is less than twice as long as wide; sutures are visible
- Eyes are present but are unsclerotized
- Ocelli absent
- Pronotum width equal to head width; twice as wide as long
- Outline of pronotum margins look angular rather than curved
- Antennae 12-13 segments, usually 13
- Right mandible with two short median teeth
- Left mandible with 3 short teeth
