Scientific name: Sitotroga cerealella

Identification
The wings of adults are silky yellow to pale tan in colour and are heavily fringed with hairs. They have a single small black spot in the centre of the forewing, though in some individuals the wings are unmarked. The wingspan is about 12–14 mm. Labial palps are long and strongly curved upwards.

Life Cycle
Life cycle can be completed in 30 days at 30℃ and 30% or higher relative humidity. The females lay eggs on commodities, and upon hatching, the larvae excavate in grain and remain concluded until the end of pupation.
Adults emerge from the grain, leaving a silken “door”still attached to the grain. They only live to reproduce, and they do not eat.
