Distribution
Coastal areas of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria; widespread in New Zealand.
Identification
Larvae. They are 30 mm in length when fully developed. They are pale in colour with a grey area towards the end of their abdomens. They are found in decaying wood of fences and external verandah decking where they feed on the fungus-affected wood.
Behaviour
The larvae feed on fungi present in and on decaying wood. They produce silk that binds their faeces and wood fragments together and they feed inside the enclosure.
