Identification

Adult: wingspan of 18-30 mm. The wings are broad, purplish-brown in colour with patterns. 

Life Cycle

Eggs are laid in crevices in commodity. The larvae feed externally, produce silk webbing and irregular holes on the attacked commodity. Adults are short-lifed, fly, and do not feed. 

Commodities attacked

Dried plant and animal materials and products, linked with aged residues and compost heaps. 

Economic importance

Of low importance. Its presence indicates poor hygiene.
