Identification
Adults are 4.4–5.2 mm in size and are metallic-coloured, usually black/bluish-black with bronze-coloured tints on the head, thorax, and abdomen, with reddish-brown eyes and iridescent wings.
Eggs are 0.63–0.74 mm long, oval, smooth and pearly white in colour. The females deposit 140–500 eggs and cheese.
Larvae are 6–8mm in size depending on the instar. They are cylindrical and white, except for the dark mouthparts. They are named after the fact that the larvae can leap 10–15 inches through the air by using their mouth as grapples and then jerking themselves forward.
Pupae are 3.0–4.0 mm long, oval and dark brown in colour. Adults usually emerge after 12 days.
Life Cycle
Can be as short as 12 days, but is usually a month.
