Identification
Adults are 3.0 mm, noticeably smaller than the larger grain borer. They are reddish-brown with cylindrical bodies. The head is concealed underneath the pronotum. Antennae with a 3-segmented loose club. The end elytra is curved gradually. Larvae are scarabaeiform or C-shaped with fully developed legs.

Life Cycle
At optimum conditions of 34 ℃ temperature and 70% relative humidity, the life cycle will be completed in 26 days. The eggs are laid in commodities or tunnels bored by adults. The larvae are internal feeders and they produce lots of flour.
Commodities attacked
A variety of grains like rice, sorghum, wheat, and cereal.
Economic Importance
Highly important, especially in modern bulk storage facilities.
